CCID helps JenNet-IP realize the Internet of Things

Senior Chinese researcher identifies JenNet-IP as a key factor for innovative IoT applications

Shanghai, China, December 5, 2013— China ’s leading technology industry research institute, China Electronics and Information Industry Development Institute (CCID), has identified JenNet-IP as the most recent research report “Analysis of Wireless Transmission Protocol for Intelligent Lighting” The ideal wireless communication protocol for the next generation of emerging smart applications indicates that the technology will help to further realize the Internet of Things (IoT) concept. JenNet-IP, developed by NXP Semiconductors NV (Nasdaq code: NXPI), is an enhanced 6LoWPAN network layer that features ease of use, high security, and low cost. The protocol is specifically targeted at ultra-low power networks based on IEEE 802.15.4 and can be used in both residential and industrial applications.

It is expected that the number of IoT nodes will grow rapidly and continuously in the next few years. As of 2020, there may be as many as 50 billion such nodes. At that time, the market value of home and building-related equipment may reach 665 billion US dollars, accounting for 29% of the broader interconnect equipment market. According to CCID Consulting, a subsidiary of CCID, the substitution effect of LEDs in the traditional lighting market has greatly increased the demand for semiconductor lighting, and as of 2014, the size of the Chinese semiconductor lighting market is expected to reach 56.5 billion yuan, an increase of 38.8 compared to this year. %.

The CCID research report shows that ultra-low-power intelligent lighting systems are expected to become one of the major development trends in the lighting industry. The study also found that JenNet-IP over IP improves the performance and functionality required for seamlessly connecting IoT communications compared to other wireless communication protocols.

As an example of JenNet-IP, NXP recently launched the "Light Pro" module. This combines the JN5168 chip running Jennet-IP with the intelligent lighting application layer, allowing customers to convert any SSL fixture to a 2.4 GHz wireless IPV6 node with only three SSL driver connections (V +, 0V, and PWM). Light Pro allows the construction of intelligent lighting networks with up to 500 nodes, and the JenNet-IP self-healing tree network topology can be converted into a very powerful network that perfectly covers commercial and public lighting applications. At the same time, the measured size of the Light Pro module is only 10mm x 10mm.

CCID Senior Consultant and General Manager of Beijing CCID Times Information Industry Co., Ltd. Dr. Li Xiyu said: "As a pioneer in the construction and realization of the concept of smart city, we have always maintained a strong interest in the development of the Internet of Things In this framework, intelligent lighting systems and related applications can definitely be successfully promoted to the public. "

In response to the release of the report, Ye Yuliang, senior vice president of NXP, sales and marketing manager of Greater China and executive officer of China and Hong Kong, said: With the maturity of the Internet of Things, NXP Light Pro is an intelligent combination of LED lighting and wireless communication. Lighting system technology is a successful lighting solution currently available on the market, with high flexibility to remotely control the bulb and set the lighting mode. In addition, in commercial building applications, intelligent control applications can provide even better and significant energy-saving features than moving from CFLs to LEDs. Mr. Ye Yuliang said: "NXP has always maintained a good record in its commitment and pursuit of innovation and cutting-edge technology. Now, according to the CCID analysis report, NXP's JenNet-IP has once again proved to be the perfect solution for IoT applications. "

JenNet-IP is an enhanced 6LoWPAN network layer, specifically for ultra-low power networking based on IEEE 802.15.4 in residential and industrial applications. Because it is based on IP and can be extended to support large networks of up to 500 devices, JenNet-IP is particularly attractive. The protocol is also designed to use or not use an Internet gateway, and has many attractive features, including ultra-low power consumption, long RF range, low memory footprint, and low total cost of ownership. JenNet-IP is based on NXP ’s mature JenNet network protocol stack, which runs on NXP ’s JN514x series of ultra-low-power wireless microcontrollers and modules.

The advantages of the JenNet-IP network supporting IoT applications include:

· Easy to use, ideal for proprietary network topologies

· Small memory footprint

· Coexistence with wi-fi and Bluetooth

· Reliable and stable communication

· Secure communication via 128-bit AES encryption

· Low-power operation in battery-powered terminal equipment
