Molex Introduces Unsealed Connector System Molex, a leading global supplier of complete interconnect products, introduces the MX150TM unsealed connector system for direct connection or in-line mid-power automotive electronics applications in the automotive industry for interior lighting, consoles, and dressing Space-constrained applications such as mirrors, seats, and door locks. The new non-sealed connection system uses the Molex MX150 terminal design that has been deployed by many wire harness manufacturers and has been field-proven, significantly saving space compared to the conventional USCAR 1.50mm interface.

Benoît Lehaut, global product manager for the Molex Transportation Products Division, said: “Molex has adopted a cost design methodology in the development of the MX150 non-sealed connector system that will help introduce this high-performance connector product at a competitive price. This is achieved through the innovative use of Terminal Positioning Assurance (TPA) on the hinges, which helps to minimize the number of components that can be produced and assembled."

The hinged TPA device is part of the housing for simple terminal insertion and safe terminal placement. The increased thrust surface of the MX150 non-sealed connector system helps to improve ergonomic performance and enables convenient USCAR-25 compatible mating and unmating. Wire harness manufacturers can easily access the terminal latches and once the TPA hinges open, quick return work or field repairs can be performed. In addition, the use of standard MX150 field service tools eliminates the need for additional tooling.

MX150 non-sealed sockets and coaxial connectors are available in 2, 3, and 4 models as standard, other circuit number products can be developed as needed, and with custom clip slots to enhance design flexibility. For easy visual installation, a total of four polarization options are provided per circuit size. The MX150 non-sealed connector system provides high mating performance for medium power (14 to 22 AWG) applications by using a one-piece latch. This enhanced toe-in terminal design provides high contact stress while minimizing Small insertion force.
