Skyworth Releases Domestic OLED TV Expected to Break Korean Monopoly Authority

The day before yesterday, Skyworth cooperated with BOE and Huawei Hass to jointly launch the first China-developed OLED TV M1 series. As a complete color TV maker, panel maker, and chip maker, they jointly created a closed-loop OLED industry chain, which shows that domestic OLEDs have bid farewell to the “lost core and few screens” era. Chinese companies with independent R&D and production capabilities are breaking and impacting the current OLED industry sector monopolized by Korean companies.

The layout for the OLED field is undoubtedly a fiercely competitive race: market rumors, even the firmest opponent of the past OLED - Hisense is also expected to join the OLED camp next year, which also means that the domestic TV brand will be fully entered; On the other hand, the panel "national team" - including BOE, China Star Optoelectronics, Tianma and other giants are also accelerating the layout of the OLED industry chain, this year and next year as a intensive OLED panel construction, put into production.

OLED TV M1 series expected to be mass-produced next year

OLED is called the next-generation display technology. Compared with LCD TVs, OLED panels can increase the TV's dimension of contrast, color, and screen stability. At the same time, the flexible nature of OLEDs makes flexible displays possible.

Due to the high threshold and high investment in technology research and development, the competition for large-screen OLED panels was mainly due to the fierce competition between Korean giants LGD and Samsung. LGD's large-screen OLED panels also need to be slightly better due to different technological routes. The competitive landscape has evolved from the previous "two-horse-race" to "one-and-only". Now BOE-made panel "boss" BOE in OLED panel technology. The breakthrough has finally torn a hole in this monopoly.

The reporter learned that BOE has already established the first AMOLED independent R&D laboratory. Liu Xiaodong, president of BOE Technology Group, said in an interview with reporters that “the panel of domestic OLED TVs jointly launched this time comes from the 8.5-generation line in Hefei.” He admitted that at present, it is still in the small-batch production stage, and will be produced after the formal mass production. Color TV vendors supply products. Currently, BOE is the second company in the world that can ship except LGD.

At present, M1 has not announced the price yet. As for the time of mass production, Liu Weizhi, the president of Skyworth's color TV division, stated that "The actual time of mass production is still in the planning of BOE. However, there will be no problem with mass production in 2017."

TV "national team" has joined the OLED camp

In fact, the time left for Chinese and foreign manufacturers to “run away” is running out. According to data from Ove Cloud Network, sales of OLED organic TVs in the Chinese market will continue to maintain a 400% growth rate in 2016 and 2017. In addition, according to data from the research institution IHS, by 2018, the global market share of OLED TVs in China will stabilize at around 20%. By then, China will become the world’s largest OLED market.

The speech made by Hao Yabin, vice president and secretary-general of the China Electronics and Video Association, pointed out at the press conference that China's OLED technology and market have matured, which will help China's OLED industry to take the fast track and promote the full-scale outbreak of the OLED industry, making China global The display market takes an increasingly important position. At the same time, this will also stimulate and expand the integration of resources in the upstream and downstream supply chains so that more companies can participate in the development and promotion of OLED TVs.

Skyworth is the earliest domestic manufacturer of OLED TVs in the entire machine manufacturer. As early as 2013, LGD introduced China's first OLED TV. Currently, there are three major brands of China Color TV in the OLED field, namely Skyworth, Changhong and Konka. Although TCL has not introduced OLED TV products, its panel company Huaxing Optoelectronics has decided to enter the OLED panel area.

On August 29th, TCL Group issued an announcement that TCL, Huaxing Optoelectronics, and Shenzhen Economic and Trade Information Committee jointly invested in the construction of the 11th generation TFT-LCD and AMOLED new display device production line projects with a planned total investment of approximately 46.5 billion yuan. This is the first time that TCL has clearly announced its entry into the AMOLED panel space. With the commissioning of the plant line, this means that TCL will launch OLED TV products by 2018 at the latest.

Once "most determined opponents" may also join

The latest news from the market shows that Hisense's most resolute opponent, Hisense, may also be joining. At a media conference at the end of October this year, Led Xiangde, president of the LGD OLED Division, mentioned twice, “Next year, an unexpected company will launch an OLED TV, which will announce its entry into OLED TV during the 2017 CES. ”

In this regard, Liu Buchen, a senior observer of the home appliance industry, analyzed that the aforementioned Lu Xiangde said that it is Hisense. As early as this year in March, it was reported that Hisense executives went to LGD to negotiate to purchase OLED panels. After various reasons, they failed to reach cooperation. “Actually, Hisense has long been involved in small screen OLED TVs. The company opposes OLED because they have always wanted to take the differentiated route and push their own laser TVs and ULED LCD TVs,” said a panel maker.

OLED is not only the next generation of mainstream display, it is also the representative of the world's high-end TV. At present, there are more than a dozen giant color TV brands that have been listed or are about to be listed in the world, and all of them take the occupation of the high-end market as the starting point. Lu Xiangde expects that OLED TVs will occupy 50% of the global high-end TV market within three years. He said that in 2017 LGD will plan to build a large-size OLED production line, "the future does not rule out the possibility of producing OLED in Guangzhou." Not long ago, Samsung also converted several of its LCD panel production lines into OLED panel production lines.

Domestic OLED panel makers accelerate the layout production line

Similarly, based on Broad "Moneyscape", the layout of domestic OLED panels is also accelerating. So far, BOE has four OLED panel production lines: the Erdos G5.5 generation line that was built in 2011; the Hefei G8.5 generation experimental line that was built in 2013 was reconstructed; it has been put into use in 2014; and it was built in 2015. The Chengdu G6 line is expected to be put into production in 2017; the G6 line that was built on October 28 this year will be put into operation in 2019.

In addition, other panel layouts include: Hefei Photovoltaic 6th generation low-temperature polysilicon AMOLED Phase II project total investment 27.278 billion yuan, plans to start construction in December 2016; Tianma will be the sixth generation of Wuhan production line for the latter part of equipment optimization, transformation Production of AMOLED panels with LTPS as the drive substrate. Huaxing Han, vice president of China Star Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd. also revealed at the end of October that its 6th generation flexible AMOLED production line will be built in Wuhan next year.

Even food companies such as black cattle food, also plans to invest nearly 30 billion yuan to start the sixth-generation AMOLED project to share the OLED industry development opportunities. As for the Hon Hai Group's acquisition of Sharp after the first investment in the OLED field, and next year Apple will launch OLED mobile phones, it has long been known.
