In the first three quarters, the total output value of LED lighting in Taiwan was 12.7 billion yuan, an increase of 5.3% year-on-year. The growth rate was reduced compared with the previous two years. The main reason was the slowdown in the growth of "LED lighting". Since 2012, the annual growth rate of LED output in Taiwan has reached double digits. In the first two years, it has 34.5% and 22.7%. Although 14.7% this year maintained double-digit growth, the increase was the lowest in 2012.

The output value of the lighting equipment industry in Taiwan reached an all-time high of 24.1 billion yuan in 1988. As the industry moved outwards, it has remained at a level of 13 billion yuan per year since the 1990s. In recent years, thanks to the application of LED in the lighting market, the output value of the lighting equipment industry rose to a new high of 16.4 billion yuan last year.

Lighting equipment (including LED bulbs/light strips and LED lamps) has grown rapidly since the average unit price in 2011. This year, the proportion has increased to 60% of all lamps. Last year, the output of LED bulbs/light bars reached 36.61 million, a record high, an increase of 8 times compared with 2011.

However, Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs officials admitted that the low-end lighting market has been fiercely competitive this year. In particular, China’s mainland has eaten this market, which has forced Taiwanese companies to adjust their production. This year’s cumulative production from January to September was 26.55 million, compared with the same period last year. It only increased by 13.8%, which is far less than the previous years. "But the annual output value can still grow, indicating that our LED lamps have been successfully transformed into high value."
