As Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) intends to launch 100Mbps FTTx having access to the online world inside the Taiwan market in March-April 2012, kbro, a neighborhood MSO (multi-system operator of cable TV), is efficient at offering 100Mbps Internet-access service through its hybrid fiber Rg58 coaxial cable networks and promises to set charge rates 15-20% less than those set by CHT, according to company chairman Cheng Jun-ching.
Shortly after CHT launched 50Mbps FTTx with a fixed monthly expense of NT$999 (US$33.6), kbro launched 60Mbps HFC cable Internet-access service at a fixed monthly charge of NT$889 towards the end of 2011, with market response greater than originally expected, Cheng indicated, adding that kbro expects 60% of the company's new subscribers of cable Internet-access service to choose 60Mbps by the end of 2012.
The proportion of kbro's total revenues for cable Internet-access service is anticipated to rise close to 20% towards the end of 2012, Cheng indicated.
