World premiere※! ROHM develops automotive operational amplifier "BA8290xYxx-C Series" without anti-noise design

Photocoupler

ROHM, a world-renowned semiconductor manufacturer, developed a grounding operation for vehicles with overwhelming EMI tolerance*1) (hereinafter referred to as “anti-noise performance”) for core systems such as EV/HEV engines and automotive electronic systems using on-board sensors. Amplifier "BA8290xYxx-C Series" (BA82904YF-C/BA82904YFVM-C/BA82902YF-C/BA82902YFV-C).

"BA8290xYxx-C series" is a combination of ROHM 's "circuit design", "layout" and "process" three simulation technology advantages. Compared with the general product, the output voltage variation in all frequency bands is ±3.5%~±10%. Only within ±1%, it is an operational amplifier with absolute advantages in noise immunity. The rear stage of the component, such as an output sensor, can amplify the signal without being affected by noise. Therefore, the noise design using the filter as a countermeasure is no longer needed, which helps to reduce the design man-hour of the system and improve reliability.

This product has been sold in September 2017 (sample price is 500 yen/piece, excluding tax). It is planned to start mass production in June 2018 with a monthly capacity of 1 million units. The production base of the previous process is ROHM WakoCo., Ltd. (Okayama Prefecture, Japan), and the production base of the later process is ROHM Integrated Systems (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (Thailand).

In recent years, automotive electronic systems have used ECUs (Electric Control Units) and sensors to control and optimize internal states such as temperature, acceleration, and current to improve fuel consumption and increase safety.

On the other hand, as the electronic and high-density of automobiles are accelerating, the noise problem is becoming more and more serious, and it has become a major problem for sensors that process small signals. In addition, in the car development process, due to noise problems can not be evaluated separately, only after all the assembly is completed, the noise test. However, once a noise problem occurs after assembly, significant design modifications will result. Therefore, noise design always requires extra care.

ROHM has taken advantage of the combined production advantages of ROHM analog design technology and unique bipolar process for these noise issues, and is the world's first operational amplifier that does not require anti-noise design circuits.

1. The world's first on-board operational amplifier without anti-noise design

"BA8290xYxx-C series" condenses ROHM's "circuit design (new anti-noise countermeasure circuit)" "layout experience (multi-year accumulated simulation layout)" "process (exclusive bipolar process)" three unique simulation technology development to make. Compared with the general product, the output voltage variation in all frequency bands is ±3.5%~±10%, and the product is only within ±1%, achieving extremely superior anti-noise performance. This anti-noise performance can reduce the external anti-noise components (three CR filters for power supply, input and output) that are indispensable for general products, thus eliminating the need for noise design of in-vehicle sensor applications that play an important role in the system. It solves the noise problem in the development of automotive electronic systems, helping to reduce design man hours and improve reliability.

In addition, ROHM is expected to extend the operational amplifier technology that achieves superior noise immunity to the industrial equipment market in the future.

2. Support global automotive industry standards

The "BA8290xYxx-C Series" not only supports the global automotive industry reliability standard AEC-Q100, but also consumes current (only 0.5mA compared to 0.7mA for general products) and bias voltage compared to general products (compared to general products). The ±7mV is only ±6mV). The product lineup uses standard op amp pin configurations and common surface mount packages and channel counts. Simply replace existing products with noise hazards.

*1) EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) tolerance

EMI tolerance is an indicator of tolerance to noise generated around. When the EMI tolerance is low, noise generated around it may cause malfunction of components or systems. Therefore, filters (capacitors, resistors, etc.) and shields (metal plates) are required for noise countermeasures. Conversely, if EMI tolerance is high, there is no longer a need to worry about noise effects, which will greatly help reduce noise design man hours and effort.
