Samsung and Seoul National University develop amorphous glass substrate GaN LEDs

Recently, Samsung's Advanced Technology Institute and Seoul National University announced the development of the first light-emitting diode made of amorphous glass substrate. Gallium nitride light-emitting diodes on amorphous glass substrates are not only less expensive to manufacture, but also more expandable in large-size LED wafer-level packaging, and can also be used in optoelectronic emission devices due to the transparency of glass substrates.

According to the study, the key to controlling MOCVD growth of five growth stages of InGaN/GaN multiple quantum wells is to understand that the light-emitting layer in the pyramid-shaped LED array is a thin-film titanium target layer, which is combined with a gallium nitride hexagonal crystal structure. similar.

Following the front alignment layer and the initial low temperature GaN layer (LT-GaN) is followed by a hole pattern of silicon dioxide (SiO2) layer, further clarifying the nucleation sites of the radiation layer growth phase during the epitaxy process. After the polymerized pyramid structure and the final indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode layer, pyramidal LED device illumination will emit a brightness of 600 cd/m2 ranging from 448-478 nm.
