CSA International Announces New Requirements for Luminaire Testing

Due to the continuous development of lighting technology, the increasing emphasis on energy protection issues around the world and the introduction of a series of related standards, more and more companies are paying attention to the testing and certification of related products, and seeking professional third-party certification bodies. Help, and strive to bring products to market as soon as possible.

Recently, CSA International released the "Requirements for Retrofitted Luminaires and LED Retrofit Kits for Installation into Previously Installed Luminaires" to help customers gain insight into retrofit fixtures and LED conversion kits. Test certification requirements.

TIL No. B-79 certification requirements

The TIL specifies minimum safety requirements for LED retrofit kits that are suitable for installed and certified lighting fixtures. The conversion kit categories include the following:

â—† LED Retrofit Kit: Includes LED light source and LED driver to replace compact, incandescent and/or HID sources, or to modify fixture design.

â—† LED Tube Light Conversion Kit: Includes a retrofit kit to replace fluorescent lights.

This TIL complements the standard requirements for end products. In addition, retrofit luminaires are required to meet the requirements of CSA C22.2. No. 250/UL 1598: Luminaires standards and to comply with the requirements of the Canadian Electrical Code Part 1 and the National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA 70.

The LED retrofit kit category includes LED light sources and LED drivers for replacing compact, incandescent and/or HID light sources, or for modifying luminaire designs. A related modification may be to remove the ballast of the luminaire or rewire the lamp holder to power the LED light source. LED conversion kits are required to meet the following applicable standards:

The LED conversion kit requires a conventional temperature test of UL 8750 Standard Clause 8.3, a withstand voltage test of Clause 8.4 and an additional test requirement for the LED light source of the No. B-79 standard:

â—† No. B-79 "Requirements for the installation of modified lamps and LED conversion kits to existing lamps"

â—† CSA C22.2.No 1993/UL 1993, self-ballasted luminaires and luminaire adapters

â—† UL8750, LED light source for lighting products

The LED tubular lamp conversion kit is used to replace the lighting system in the installed fixtures. It also needs to meet the above three standards, and needs to pass the temperature test, the drop test, the wet environment test, and the like.
