LED technology will become the leading product technology of flat panel TV industry in the next three years

The application of LEDs can be seen everywhere in real life. For example, roadside billboards, various color indicators on household appliances, and backlights on mobile phone keyboards all use LEDs as light sources, and LEDs are still used in LCD TV products. It is an emerging display technology.

LED backlights have obvious technical advantages in the field of LCD TVs. First, LED backlights do not contain mercury and other toxic substances compared to other light sources, which meets the requirements of green environmental protection. At the same time, LED internal driving voltage is low, power consumption is small, and energy saving effect Significantly; secondly, the LED can realize a wide color gamut range that cannot be achieved by the conventional CCFL light source, and provide protection for the color improvement of the LCD TV; third, the LED backlight has a long decay period and a long service life; and fourth, due to the response of the LED light The time is nanoseconds, which can significantly improve the motion image smearing problem and improve the dynamic definition. The above technical advantages solve the bottleneck problem in the development of flat panel television display technology, and the LED backlight source will be the mainstream trend of the development of flat panel TV products in the future.

As a breakthrough in the flat-panel TV industry, LED backlight LCD TVs have been optimistic by the industry. At present, many Chinese and foreign flat-panel TV manufacturers have begun to increase investment in this field, and have begun to promote LED backlight LCD TVs as high-end products. As Chinese and foreign flat-panel companies have successively invested in the development of LED technology, the market scale has gradually expanded.

In 2008, Samsung took the lead in releasing the largest 70-inch LED LCD TV in China, and subsequently introduced 750, 850, and 950 series LCD TV products using LED backlight technology. As the first company in China to launch LED backlight LCD TV products, Hisense is the first to launch China's first large-size LED backlight module production line, and achieve annual output of millions of LED backlight modules... It is foreseeable that LED technology will become a tablet A new milestone in the development of the television industry.

Some experts believe that LED backlights have obvious advantages. As a replacement display technology product, it will gradually become popular. It is expected to become the leading product technology of China's flat-panel TV industry in the next three years. Although LED backlight technology makes up for the shortcomings of existing display technologies, it is the development trend of flat panel TV display technology in the future. However, it is still necessary to work hard to replace or partially replace the CCFL lighting technology of traditional LCD TVs.

First of all, Yokohama is still a price threshold in front of consumers. LCD TV products using LED backlight technology have no advantage in terms of price. At present, the price of LED backlight is about 2~5 times that of CCFL backlight. As shown in Figure 1, the cost of the LED module accounts for more than 30% of the total LED backlight cost. The larger the screen size, the higher the cost of using LED backlight technology. In addition, as an emerging display technology, LED backlight technology is not yet very mature, such as luminous efficiency, current control and heat dissipation and other technical issues still need to be improved.

The existing large-size LED backlights are developed in a straight-to-side type, and the product is developed from a thickness of about 40 mm to a thickness of 10 mm. The LED lamp is developed from the original direct-to-four-side light into the side-in type, and the power consumption is reduced to 46 inches and 150W. At present, BOE's 46-inch side-entry LED backlight has a thickness of 10.9mm and consumes 145W, as shown in Figure 2.

Existing module manufacturers have their own LED supply chain, and Figure 3 is the data provided by Displaysearch.

All major backlight manufacturers are establishing operational cooperation models with LED manufacturers. The current situation is that the capacity of LED manufacturers cannot meet the existing demand.
